The Identity Crisis

Who am I? This is a question I feel every person has asked themselves and has sought to figure out. Identity seems to be a vey touchy subject nowadays and it is important that we understand who we are through Christ and what we have been called to do. The Bible states that we were created in the image of God. With Himself in mind, God created you. It can be hard to comprehend this at times and we as Christians sometimes fail to acknowledge this impactful information. So, what does this mean for us believers and who should we strive to be?

As a follower of Christ, I know that I have a set purpose that God has intended for me well before I was even born. God has a plan for every single person and it is up to us whether or not we seek out that plan and follow it. Your identity, as a believer, is in Christ and His Father. It is important that we solidify our identity in Christ. We are to be like Jesus and shine light into the darkness through His name. I cannot profess to be a Christian and live a life that Christ wouldn’t live. We al struggle and sin and fall short of the Glory of God. We must take up our cross daily and repent form our sins and strive to do better. What prevents us from doing this?

Sin. It is at the root of the identity crisis the world is facing right now. In my lifetime, I have never seen so many people trying to create an identity for themselves that God never intended for them to have. Satan is fighting harder than ever to keep people away from God and fueling their hatred for Him and His followers. The world is lost, people are lost, and it is up to us to get as many people on the straight and narrow path and find their identities in Christ. How can we do this?

As young men and women of God, it can be difficult to gain the courage to talk to someone about our faith when everyone is being attacked for their beliefs. As a society of young Saints, we must ask God for courage in speaking with nonbelievers no matter the consequences. We must allow God the opportunity to work through us in any way He sees fit. The ONLY WAY that this identity crisis will ever reach a resolution is if that resolution includes Jesus providing a new identity to those suffering. We must teach others that they may come as they are, but with Jesus they will never be the same.

As a way to get started, I have provided below what the Bible says about who we are in Christ. Please use this when helping someone figure out who they are and what their purpose through Christ is.

So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. - Genesis 1:27
