The sermon at my local church today was on Cleansing Your Mind. This is something that we all must take seriously and try to do on a daily basis. This can be a tricky thing to do when we are constantly being bombarded with information through our televisions and our phones. So how exactly do we go about this?
First we need to flush our minds. Philippians 4:8 discusses that we must fill our minds with “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, and whatever is admirable.” These are things that are hard to find through social media, the news, and even the outlets of entertainment that we seek after a long day. We must find appropriate outlets outside of our technology. We instead should focus on things that are excellent and praiseworthy of our Father in Heaven.
Next, we must fill our minds with things that will help flush out the bad things that our mind is constantly being filled with. The best way to remove the bad is to overflow with the good. If we continue to allow more evil in than righteousness, our minds will not be getting the cleansing that we need in order for us to live out the Godly lives that God intends us to.
We must also filter our minds. This can be done through influencing the world with Christ more than the the Christ-less world influences us. We have to care more about what enters our minds. There is a spiritual war going on around us that is constantly trying to take control over our minds. Satan will always try to ruin our thought process by inserting evil thoughts and ruin the moments that we are having. Have you ever wondered where an evil thought comes from out of nowhere during a moment of prayer and worship? Rebuke Satan and his evil and take back your mind!
Lastly, we must focus our mind on above. Have you ever just had a conversation with God? He loves us more than anything yet all we do is go to Him when we need things. We cannot make God out to be someone that we go to at our convenience. Instead, we must think on a daily basis, “What Would God Think?” We need to have moments of thinking about how God sees a certain situation and also try to look at His perspective.
Treasure your mind and your thoughts. Lean on God for guidance and focus on above.
